Cause of Possession

Ellie was the older sister of Beth, and the mother of Bridget, Danny, and Kassie. After her son Danny discovered an ancient book and accidentally awakened the Kandarian Demon, Ellie was attacked by the creature and became a Deadite.

Despite Danny and Bridget's best efforts, it is only Ellie's daughter Kassie and her aunt Beth who manage to survive the Evil Dead Rise ending. In a visually spectacular callback to The Shining, Beth and Kassie escape their floor through an elevator flooded with blood.

I think they forget that, all jokes aside, so much of this character's vitriol is built around loss: not from the abortion she initially needed, but from the lack of agency that came after it. Beth never signed up for a hysterectomy but was greeted with it after her abortion procedure, like a punishment.

This is likely because she never let her fear overwhelm her. In Evil Dead Rise, Beth wanted to save her nieces and nephew and her strength, like Ash in Evil Dead, allowed her bravery to overwhelm the fear, and the weakness deadite possession requires was nowhere to be found.

Dead Rising--as a wacky zombie game that offers a different flavor than Capcom's other zombie series, Resident Evil--is a success, for the most part. But it's also the ultimate escort mission, and a great example of why players so often hate that sort of thing.
