What is the effect of the Red Sea disruptions on the automotive industry? 🚗🚙The automotive industry, mostly among electric vehicles, was one of the first to feel the disruptions caused by shipping through the Red Sea.The reported earnings from this season, however, indicate that the impact on automotive supply chains may not be as significant as initially feared. The industry mainly experienced delays in part deliveries and an impact on their warehouse inventory. The Polish truck market has experienced a significant boom in recent months, signaling a positive trend for the overall transportation and logistics industry. In the first quarter of 2024, the number of newly registered trucks in Poland grew by 19.2% compared to the same period in the previous year. The results for March were even more impressive, with a new record being set – an increase of almost 28% compared to March 2023, marking the highest increase at the end of a first quarter.The upswing in the Polish truck market has been ongoing since August 2022. The increases in new registrations have been consistent, with articulated lorries seeing a 17.5% increase in the first quarter, and trucks over 3.5 tonnes witnessing a 25% growth. Experts attribute this surge in new orders to the improved economic situation in the TSL industry, which had faced a more serious outlook in the first half of 2022, particularly due to the war in Ukraine and the collapsing markets in the east.In terms of brand popularity, Mercedes-Benz leads the pack, followed by Volvo, DAF, Scania, and MAN. Notably, Scania and Volvo experienced significant increases, with Scania even recording a 137% surge in March, securing second place behind Mercedes-Benz. Conversely, MAN lost a considerable portion of its market share, both in the entire quarter and in March.
