Dave S Estranged from her parents for years, Mom (Kathryn Hahn) ships her two children (Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould) off to get acquainted with their grandparents in their remote country home. Before you can say ‘sundowning syndrome’, things begin to spiral wildly out of control. When all is said and done, what transpires doesn’t always make a whole lot of sense, but that’s a forgivable sin considering how much fun it all is. M. Night Shyamalan manages to resurrect his sagging career with a movie that is filled with a handful of decent jump scares, an atmosphere dripping with malice, more than its fair share of uncomfortable laughs, and a clever twist. Despite periodically throwing logic out the window, The Visit is wildly entertaining viewing from start to finish.
